NEW STEPHANIE TUBBS JONES INTERNSHIP PROGRAM ANNOUNCED BY THE DELTA FOUNDATION
The Delta Research and Educational Foundation (The Delta Foundation), are now accepting applications for the 2012 Stephanie Tubbs Jones Summer Internship. The new program represents an innovative collaboration between the Delta Foundation and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) designed to increase the number of minority women in public service.
Two major founding gifts totaling $125,000 officially launched the new Stephanie Tubbs Jones Social Justice Institute which houses the Internship program within The Delta Foundation. The Clinton Family Foundation, established by former President William Jefferson Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton presented a $100,000 gift in tribute to Congresswoman Tubbs Jones, their long-time friend. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority member and Washington, DC businesswoman, Michele V. Hagans gifted $25,000 to help the new program meet its 2012 objectives.
The student awarded the 2012 Summer Internship receives a $3,000 stipend, room and board at a local Washington, DC-area university, participation in the intensive nine-week CBCF Congressional Internship Program with other students from across the country to learn about the legislative process, leadership, and public policy. The students also work in CBC member offices and attend professional development events. The Stephanie Tubbs Jones Intern is additionally expected to attend select programs and events sponsored by The Delta Foundation.
