On Women’s Equality Day, The Black Women’s Agenda, Inc. honors the passage of the 19th Amendment while lifting the names of the Black women who made the suffrage movement possible.
Leaders like Ida B. Wells, Mary Church Terrell, Frances Ellen Watkins Harper, and Sojourner Truth carried the dual burden of fighting for gender equality while demanding recognition of Black humanity. Their voices were too often sidelined, yet their courage carved the path for generations to come.
